5 Hidden Gems Around Seneca Lake That Aren't Wine

One of the things we love most about Seneca Lake is that there’s truly something for everyone here. Whether you love the outdoors, are searching for something new to taste (the food and wine is unbelievable!), or simply want a place to rewind with a good book, you’ll find it when you come to visit. Wine lovers love visiting this region of the Finger Lakes because there are so dozens of wineries to choose from. But, that’s not the only thing to see and do when you visit Seneca Lake.

If you’re not big on wineries or want to mix up your wine tour with something different, here are some of our favorite hidden gems to add to your itinerary when you visit the Finger Lakes!

  1. The Spotted Duck

There’s nothing better than farm fresh small batch ice cream…unless you’re talking about The Spotted Duck in Penn Yan. Not only has this ice cream maker been voted Best Dessert in New York State by Yelp, but it puts a unique twist on your favorite dessert: they make all of their frozen custards with duck eggs. It’s creamier and richer than you could’ve ever imagined.

  1. Sunset View Creamery

In nearby Odessa, Sunset View Creamery is far from your average dairy. Not only do they offer cheeses, raw milk, breads, jams, jellies, and local meats in their farm store, but they also deliver a one of a kind experience you’ll find nowhere else: cow cuddling! Book your session to hug, lay next to, and become best buds with their dairy cows -- can you imagine the photos?!

  1. Finger Lakes Cider House

This popular spot in Interlaken has the largest selection of cider in the area, ranging from local makers to their own incredible house brand. You can tour the farm, too or even enjoy a Friday night concert on their grounds in the summer. Grab lunch in their in-house farm-to-table restaurant which features sandwiches, salads, and other small bites. They also offer seasonal apple and peach picking!

  1. Seneca Sunrise Coffee

Located in Watkins Glen just off the main drag, Seneca Sunrise Coffee is one of our favorite finds in the region. This artisan coffee roaster uses only certified organic green coffee beans and puts so much care and consideration into everything they do. In fact, we love it so much that we made it our coffee of choice when you come to stay with us! (P.S. They also sell bags of their coffee online, so you can enjoy it at home after your vacation in Seneca Lake!)

Penn Yan Diner

  1. Penn Yan Diner

This place is a step back in time! Penn Yan Diner is one of the last remaining dining car diners in the US. You’ll love the retro vibe and friendly staff. Make sure to try the cinnamon raisin toast with icing (a local secret menu favorite!) or their pancakes -- they’re the best!
